In honor of wanting to release another single from “The Paine Road E.P.,” I’m releasing another single from “The Paine Road E.P.” You know how it goes when you D.I.Y.! Anyway, you’ll find a newly-mixed version of “I Wonder” b/w an instrumental version, so you can sing along yourself! (But, if you win $50 at a karaoke competition, you have to send me half, okay? It’s the rules.)
“I Wonder” (’06 Mix)
I Wonder (3.4 MB, 128 MP3)
I Wonder (Karaoke Version) (3.4. MB, 128 MP3)

As you know, I have been enjoying catching up on Fox’s hit drama, 24. However, as I work my way through the first season, it has become clearer and clearer to me that Sean Callery, the composer of the score, is blatantly ripping off Mark Snow, composer of the score of X-Files.
The proof, as they say, is in the pudding. Feast your ears on the two audio files below, both ripped from DVDs. The first is a random scene from my favorite X-Files episode, “Eve,” which aired on December 10, 1993. The second is a random scene from 24, “10:00,” which aired on May 14, 2002. Nearly ten years separates these episodes, but the similarity between the two scores is as freaky as an episode of…well, of X-Files.
Mark Snow’s X-Files music that will kick anyone’s butt any day (783 KB)
Sean Callery’s 24 music that blatantly rips off Mark Snow (1.6 MB)
So what do you think?

I don’t mean to let my real life infringe on my blog life, but I have to share a piece from a student’s paper with all of you.
The assignment was to write a response to any number of topics (I call it a “Daily Theme,” the one thing that I implemented into my own curriculum from my obnoxiously haughty high school). One of my eighth graders began his response to the question “If you could ban anything in the world, what would it be and why?” with this little number:
All over the world, things are being banned. Like in my house now, you can’t bring milkshakes upstairs.
Aaah, yes. The perennial problem of milkshake banning. I’ve read about it, but I always thought it was a myth. Until now.

So I’ve been having real problems as of late involving my obsession with 24. It really is as good as people say it is. No, really. Check it out if you haven’t already.
