Flying off the shelves…

February 23, 2007 · No Comments

So my friend Catherine told me that she saw my dad’s book at Wal-Mart the other day. Amazed that the Evil Empire would carry such a thing, I stopped by today after work. Sure enough, displayed prominently in the “Books and Magazines” section, I found…

Can you dig it? The more books, the bigger the beach house, baby!

And that’s Dr. Gott’s No Flour, No Sugar Diet by Dr. Peter Gott for all those Googling out there. Go to your local Wal-Mart and buy a few dozen copies. And some cat food and batteries. Or whatever people buy at Wal-Mart.

Change

February 15, 2007 · No Comments

Ah, yes.

“You walked into the room, I just had to laugh
The face you wore was cool, you were a photograph
When it’s all too late, it’s all too late
I did not have the time, I did not have the nerve
To ask you how you feel, is this what you deserve
When it’s all too late, it’s all too late

Change, you can change…Change, you can change…

And something on your mind became a point of view
I lost your honesty, you lost the life in you
When it’s all too late, it’s all too late
We walk and talk in time, I walk and talk in two
Where does the end of me become the start of you
When it’s all too late, it’s all too late

Change, you can change…Change, you can change…

What has happened to the friend that I once knew, has he gone away?
When it’s all too late, it’s all too late

Change…Change, you can change…Change, you can change…
Change, you can change…Change, you can change…
Change, you can change…Change, you can change…”

Two for Tuesday (Night)

February 14, 2007 · No Comments

I spent most of Saturday listening to XTC, more XTC, and only XTC, but, for some reason, there are only two albums that have been rotating through my home CD player and the CD changer in my car.

Every time I hit “Play CD” on the Harmony remote, this pops up, and I do nothing to stop it:

And I listened to this album all the way to Westport last week, all the way back, and all the way in between:

Discuss.

My iTunes just shuffled from this song to this one. How amazingly, incredibly perfect.

When the night falls, loneliness calls…

February 12, 2007 · No Comments

I felt so badly for those poor girls who sat together in the front row of the Grammy Awards tonight. You know, so we could all text our brains out and choose one of them to sing with Justin Timberlake? And so that they could hold hands and look like they loved one another, when really they were ready to get into an eyeball-scratching catfight?

The dorm voted for Robyn Troupe because the other girls got to sing along to “If I Ain’t Got You” on their audition video, while Robyn had to sing along to a MIDI-accompanied version of “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)”. I mean, c’mon. What’s up with that? The poor thing definitely had our pity vote.

I turned the ceremony off at 9:30, but I’m TiVoing the rest of it, so I’ll get to find out who won tomorrow. I don’t really care, though, because the only thing that matters now is that I’ll have that damn song in my head for the rest of the week.

(And, no, I don’t have any Whitney Houston songs on the “Guilty Pleasures” playlist on my iPod. Okay, well maybe I have just this one. But that’s it.)

"Melt the Guns"

February 10, 2007 · No Comments

Turn it up as loud as it will possibly go.

“Programmes of violence
As entertainment
Brings the disease into your room.
We know the germ
Which is man-made in metal
Is really a key to your own tomb.

Prevention is better than cure,
Bad apples affecting the pure,
You’ll gather your senses I’m sure
Then agree to…

Melt the guns,
Melt the guns,
Melt the guns,
And never more to fire them.

Melt the guns,
Melt the guns,
Melt the guns,
And never more desire them.

Children will want them
Mothers supply them
As long as your killers are heroes.
And all the media
Will fiddle while Rome burns,
Acting like modern-time Neros.

Prevention is better than cure,
Bad apples affecting the pure,
You’ll gather your senses I’m sure
Then agree to…

Melt the guns,
Melt the guns,
Melt the guns,
And never more to fire them.

Melt the guns,
Melt the guns,
Melt the guns,
And never more desire them.

I’m speaking to the Justice League of America.
The U S of A,
Hey you,
Yes you in particular!
When it comes to the judgment day and you’re standing at the gates with your weaponry,
You dare go down on one knee,
Clasp your hands in prayer and start quoting me…
‘Cos we say…We say…
Our father we’ve managed to contain the epidemic in one place, now,
Let’s hope they shoot themselves instead of others,
Help to civilize the race now.
We’ve trapped the cause of the plague,
In the land of the free and the home of the brave.
And if you listen quietly you can hear them shooting from grave to grave.
And if you listen quite quietly you can hear them shooting from grave to grave.

From grave to grave to grave…

You should melt the guns.

Melt the guns,
Melt the guns,
Melt the guns,
And never more to fire them.

Melt the guns,
Melt the guns,
Melt the guns,
And never more desire them.”

More photos…

Today’s pictures were taken in the Tech Office. UPDATE: From now on, all of the various and sundry pictures I take will be uploaded to my brand new Flickr account. You can feel the photographic excitement by clicking here, and there will always be a link on the sidebar.

This is the corner of a notepad hanging up on Rob’s bulletin board:

This is a stack of envelopes:

These are the vertical blinds:

This is some sort of technologically-important users guide:

Isn’t photography almost as fun as music, but not quite?
