“Soylent Green is made of schlock…”

September 29, 2007 · 1 Comment

So I’m watching Soylent Green tonight and am remembering just how horrible (horribly wonderful?) it really is. Sure, the premise of the movie is kind of cool, but is this really what they thought video games would look like IN THE YEAR 2022?

Mmmm, “Computer Space.” DO NOT WANT!

And here I am, watching this movie on my flat HD t.v. that I bought in 2005. Nice vision of the future, guys!

Holy Joni

September 25, 2007 · No Comments

This is a fantastic song, Joni, but it reminds me a hell of a lot of a song that I wrote and recorded eight years ago.  Was I channeling Joni Mitchell?  Jeez, I hope so!

Oh, let your little light shine
Let your little light shine

Shine on Vegas and Wall Street
Place your bets
Shine on all the fishermen
With nothing in their nets

Shine on rising oceans and evaporating seas
Shine on our Frankenstein technologies
Shine on science
With its tunnel vision
Shine on fertile farmland
Buried under subdivisions

Let your little light shine
Let your little light shine
Shine on the dazzling darkness
That restores us in deep sleep
Shine on what we throw away
And what we keep…

“Blame It on the Boogie”

September 13, 2007 · 1 Comment

Yeah, I actually had to capo this one up a step. Who would’ve thought? Original song here (iTunes will open in a new window).

If you’re interested — and let’s face it, you are — here’s the original music video from 28 years ago. It’s hard to believe that Michael fell so far…There’s such pure joy in this song. It’s also quite strange to see that recognizable voice coming out of that unrecognizable (now, at least) 21-year-old man. This was before all the surgeries, of course. I wonder what it would’ve been like if…?

What, Liz?

September 6, 2007 · No Comments

If you can decipher the lyrics to this song without consulting Google, YOU WIN. EVERYTHING.

Yes, Liz is singing in English. Have fun!

Here’s the chorus, at least, so you can “sing” along:

Singing on the famous street
I want to love me
Am I just in heaven or Las Vegas?
It’s so much more brighter than the sun is to me

(If you can’t figure it out, a good guess is here. Remember, no Cocteau lyrics — at least from this album — were ever printed.)

So Why Not?

September 4, 2007 · 1 Comment

One of my brand-new students told me today that he discovered my website. That’s the power of the Internet!

So I ask all of you: how about downloading one of my albums, for free?

Or maybe you’d want to watch a few of my live, acoustic performances?

Yeah, that’d be nice.

Because Guns Don’t Kill People…

…they just kill musicians.

Isn’t this an argument for gun control?  Like, shoot first, ask questions later?  Or never?
